A Post 9/11 Meditation on Pedagogy, Curriculum, & Theoretical Perspectives in English Literature
-
Before we can begin to teach literature effectively, we have to address the relationships being fostered between the students and their teachers; and also assess the student's relationship with each other.
-
The "Syllabi" we develop, as well as our pedagogical styles, are critically important to the effectiveness of the curriculum, and should be honestly and compassionately discussed with the students.
-
Stressed, & depressed students need a different style of mentoring; nearly half of all college students drop out before earning a degree, and many are saddled with debt - with very limited job opportunities.
-
We must organize our program of literary studies with an increased awareness and acknowledgement of the emotional & cultural challenges our students are facing. Jake Maguire (English 600)
